Diabetes Prevention Program

About Prediabetes

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 84 million American adults - or more than 1 in every 3 - have prediabetes. However, 90% of people with prediabetes are not aware that they have this. But don’t let the “pre” fool you. Prediabetes is a serious condition that places people at greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Those with prediabetes have a 30% likelihood of developing Type 2 diabetes within the next five years. Download this infographic from the CDC for more statistics like these.

There is good news though. Studies have proven that a program that focuses on improving diet while increasing physical activity and weight loss can decrease the chance of progressing to Type 2 diabetes by as much as 71%.

Are you at risk of developing diabetes?

If you’re not sure what your risk is, take the prediabetes risk test below. If you score a 5 or higher, follow up with your primary care provider to see if additional testing is needed.

This would also be a great time to consider the Prevent T2 program offered by Owensboro Health.
