COVID-19 Update: Elective Surgeries, Vaccine Guidance, By The Numbers
Elective Surgeries Resume
Owensboro Health has resumed elective surgeries following a temporary hold on scheduling surgeries that require an overnight stay. This change is dependent on COVID-19 surges and staffing capability.
Updated Guidance for Vaccines and Boosters
Owensboro Health is no longer be administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Studies have shown the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to be safer, more effective and last longer.
The CDC has released new guidance regarding vaccines for those who are immunocompromised.
- Immunocompromised individuals may now get a booster (fourth shot) three months after their third dose instead of five months.
- For immunocompromised individuals who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, a second dose of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) is indicated after 28 days, followed by a booster (third shot) at least two months after the second dose.
- There is also no longer a 90-day wait period for vaccination (any dose) after getting monoclonal antibody infusions.
COVID-19 By The Numbers
Our bi-weekly COVID-19 infographic has been redesigned to illustrate the most relevant information available. In addition to the visual dot graph, important numbers are now explained in percentages so viewers can understand them at a glance. We’ve also included an info box that answers a frequent question about the definition of “fully vaccinated,” and patients are now broken into three categories: not fully vaccinated, fully vaccinated and boosted. The majority of patients hospitalized at OHRH for COVID-19 are overdue for a vaccine booster, which offers better protection against severe illness and death from the Omicron variant. If you received your vaccine more than five months ago, now is the time to be boosted. Schedule an appointment today at OwensboroHealth.org/Vaccine.
